"My dream is to play a character…. I'm yet to find it."
In my opinion, this small line is essential among the other heavy punch lines,
because the moment this line completes, there is a shot of entering of Sudheer
(Sanjay Misra), who is also searching for his last
grand role. He used to work as a side actor in the 70s-80s movies. After many
years, he is searching for his 500th character to complete a
round figure of his 499 roles. And that's the core of the movie, the foreshadowing
line of the film is "this one is going to be your best role till date."
And it was. Finally, he found the best role.
Who is Sudheer? An Adami of a mafia who always
brings negative information. Lala, who has a different way to get debited money
from young women. A chowkidar who takes care of a haunted house for no
reason. A doctor with no good news ever. An inspector who always
comes late, deliberately, or Shera who is trying to enjoy his life, but then he
doesn't have that option too. Basically, he is a potato. I mean, he was a
character actor. In his time, character actors used to know as 'potato,' the
way potato compliment everything, character actors can be part of movies of any
genre. After many years he finds out that he has done 499 roles in total
(thanks to IMbd!!). He gets encouragement to do the 500th role
to complete a round figure.
In a subplot of the story, Sudheer is the father of
a daughter who is married and has a daughter. Every father is always a 'hero'
for his daughter, but Sudheer fails to recognize it. Due to his work, he could
pay less attention to his family. She always insists his father come live with
her family, but Sudheer always refuses it. She loves him and but
professionally, her father is just "a blink-and-you-miss-it sidekick"
actor for her, and she thinks there is no value of his works, and adding one
more movie will not make any addition.
Why the end moves, every spectator is the way the
whole story has woven. It becomes an eye-opener for him and his daughter. He
gets the role of the father of a king but miserably fails on the first day of
the shoot. That day his daughter has planned to celebrate his birthday, but he
could not reach, another failure as the father on the same day. He throws his
anger over the poster of Rahul Chopra, a big hero, love, and cherished by the
audience. He also feels dishearten when people don't respect him as he
deserves. But he soon realizes that he was running in the wrong direction. He
still missing to do his last role. He goes to some ad. agency which gives
smaller ads to the old actors. But it cannot be his final role. So what is this
last significant role, and whether he gets 'Kaamyaab' in getting it, I will not
tell here because it is something that everyone should experience and admire.
The movie, too, could have become majestic, but it could only become a blink-and-you-miss-it average movie. Three things which I liked the most is its dialogues, incredible camera work, every frame is beautiful, and the astonishing performance by Mr. Sanjay Mishra.
